We provide a study method that uses both sides of the brain. By combining Mind Mapping and the Cornell Method, we give you the best of both worlds.

While Mind Maps naturally use both sides of the brain, we find that students battle to shift from their old linear ways. We therefore show you The Cornell Method as it can easily be followed if you come from the ‘linear’ side. It is also easy to convert to a Mind Map and vice versa.

We also take you through the various phases that each study session should go through. This will ensure that you follow a method that is consistent and works!

We start from a high level ‘birds eye view’ of the subject and then dive deeper and deeper into the details. This ensures that you go from the know to the unknown, which is the basis for learning to take place.

Enrol now for our Learning Management Programme and start getting the results you deserve!

What is the best Study Method?
You might be thinking that this person is very bold to even attempt to answer this question! The answer is quite simple though - any method that utilises the whole brain!
Scientists have now almost universally agreed that the left and right halves of the brain largely have different functions. (For those of you that don’t know, the brain looks very much like a walnut, with two visibly distinct halves.)

The left side of the brain is the logical side and deals with lists, numbers and structured information etc., while the right side of the brain is the artistic side and handles colour, sensory experiences and unstructured information.

While the above is not entirely true, as both halves share some functions, using both the artistic side and the structured side in learning will greatly improve retention and understanding.
You now have a very good yardstick to measure any study method by.

Why is YourTutor’s study method so special?

This is even easier than the first question – our study method is so special because it actively incorporates both sides of the brain!

It uses Mind Maps®, and the Cornell Method. The artistic, visual learners will be more comfortable with Mind Maps®, while the logical, linear learners will be more comfortable with the Cornell Method.

Only by using both these methods, will the whole brain be used.

How does your Study Method shape up?

While this may be true, studies have shown that most of us have a dominant learning style, which fits into only a few categories.
If you prefer to learn by someone telling you, you probably have an auditory learning style.
If you prefer to learn by images and being able to picture the material, you probably have a visual learning style.

If you prefer to learn by someone telling you, you probably have an auditory learning style.

If you prefer to learn by images and being able to picture the material, you probably have a visual learning style.

Lastly, if you prefer to feel, touch and do, you probably have a tactile or kinaesthetic learning style.

We provide you with a very simple questionnaire, which enables you to determine your learning style. This will help you in the learning process, as you can use methods that play to your strengths.

Enrol now for our Learning Management Programme and discover your learning style. Then go on to think of ways to help you get the most out of your learning sessions. You can do this by producing material that suits your learning style.

For Auditory, you could make recordings of yourself, or get somebody to read some of your notes to you.

For Visual, use visual images, colour and emphasis in your notes. Mind Mapping is a perfect way for the visual learner to learn.

For Tactile, or Kinaesthetic, do practical exercises and find actual real life examples for you to get a better ‘feel’ for the subject.

Having the skills that can make you a world class sportsperson does not help, if you don’t get out on the field and apply it. Simply learning the skills and talking about it, won’t win any matches.
You have to go out there and do it!

Simply learning the skills and talking about it, won’t win any matches.

You have to go out there and do it!

Many learners fail to apply the learning skills that they have acquired over the years because they don’t know how. It’s like playing a soccer game on your computer. You learn everything there is to know about playing soccer. In the game you can be the best defender, striker or midfielder. You can even be a world class goalie!

Yet, in a real match, you may not perform in any of the positions mentioned.

The same goes for learning.

You have to apply your skills

This week, we show you how to apply your skills using our study methods. Our study methods integrate the skills that you’ve learned last week.

By applying the reading skills, the note taking skills and the memory skills you’ve learned in a structured, repeatable way, you will truly learn how to learn.

Once you’ve learned how to learn, what you learn is up to you. You can apply these skills in any field for the rest of your life.

You may even begin to subscribe to a philosophy of lifelong learning and contnously grow your knowledge, skills and attitude in everything that you do.
